First Woman is an XR experience developed by Bully! Entertainment in collaboration with National Institute of Aerospace and NASA. Based on the First Woman graphic novel, the project combines augmented reality and interactive storytelling to immerse users in a stylized lunar adventure while introducing real NASA technologies through an engaging educational experience.
For me, this was one of the most meaningful projects I had the opportunity to work on. I was responsible for creating a large portion of the environments, props, lunar vehicles, and the companion robot RT, one of the project's central characters. To better understand the robot's proportions and physical presence, RT was initially sculpted in clay before being recreated as a real-time 3D asset.
All interactive scenes were assembled in Unity. One of the biggest artistic challenges was faithfully translating the visual style of the original graphic novel into a fully interactive real-time experience. Every asset was designed to preserve the bold, stylized aesthetic of the illustrations while allowing users to feel as though they had stepped directly into the pages of the story.
This project combined character creation, environment art, real-time production, and close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to deliver an immersive educational experience inspired by space exploration.
